MR. E. F. DUTHIE [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] DTJNEDIN - ,. Wednesday The death occurred this morning of Mr. Edward Fawns Dutliie, aged 74. Mr. Duthie was born in Dunedin in November, 1860. He joined the firm of James Duthie and Company, who carried on the business of general carriers and contractors, in 1887 and remained with it until an amalgamation was effected with the New Zealand Express Company, Limited. Mr. Duthie became manager of the Dunedin branch of the company and one of its directors. He retired from the former position at the end of 1914, but retained his seat on the board of directors and for the past four years was chairman. For close on 40 years he was closely connected.with the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society and was appointed secretary in 1893. He resigned this position in 1901 and was president in 1907 and 1908. He again accepted the secretaryship in 1921, holding office until a few years ago when as the result of ill-health he retired from active work.
THE REV. W. BRAMWELL SCOTT [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, "Wednesday
The death occurred to-day, after a brief illness, of the Rev. W. Bramwell Scott, minister of the Trinity Methodist Church, [Wellington South and chaplain to the forces. Less than ten days ago Mr. Scott attended the Methodist Conference in Dunedin. On the return journey he complained of feeling unwell and last Saturday he developed internal trouble. He was operated upon that day, but failed to rally. Mr. Scott was inducted to the charge of Trinity Church three years ago. He took a large part in the work of the Returned Soldiers' Association and often he acted as a referee for football clubs. He also took a keen interest in horticulture. Entering the ministry about 82 years ago Mr. Scott rendered excellent service as a padre in the Great War. During the course of his ministry he travelled & good deal in New Zealand, visiting many centres. He had been stationed at Waimate, Kaiapoi and Wellington. Mr. Scott was 61 years of age, is survived by his wife and a married daughter, Mrs. Chapman, of Karori. MR. L. M. PEARSON [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday The death has occurred of Mr. Leslie Montague Pearson, managing director of F. J. Pinny, Limited. Born at Geelong, Victoria, in 1879, Mr. Pearson came to New Zealand as a young man and was employed as a traveller. He then became associated with a tailoring firm in Christchurcli, and became managing director of Pinny's about 23 years ago. He leaves a widow and two children. MR. GEORGE PETRIE The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr. George Petrie, formerly headmaster of Opawa School, Christcliurcb, at the age of 72. Born at East Oxford, Canterbury, he was educated at tho local school and later at Canterbury College. Ho became master of the Normal School at Christchurcli, but owing to failing health resigned, his position and visited Great Britain and the Continent. For two years he was chief clerk of the Ctdedonian Railway Company, with headquarters at Glasgow. After an absence of four years Mr. Pctrie returned to New Zealand and was appointed headmaster of the Opawa School, a position he held for 38 years. Again as a resiilt of poor health, he left the teaching profession and took up land at Aria, near Te Kuiti, in 1912, and farmed ifc until his death. Ho took an active interest in the affairs of tho King Country and was secretary of the Aria Settlers' Association, which he inaugurated. He was for 12 years a director of the Aria Dairy Company, Limited. He isi survived by his widow, a son, Mr. Mark Petrie, of Dargaville, a daughter, Mrs. F. A. Adam, of Aria, and three grandchildren.
