FALL DOWN LIFT WELL

WELLINGTON FATALITY COMMENT BY CORONER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday " I am satisfied the locking device on the lift gate was not fool-proof. Deceased should not have been able to open tho door. Obviously tho mechanism was defective," said tho coroner at tho inquest concerning tho death of Keith Charles Anderson who fell down the lift well in tho Commercial Travellers Building on February 18, receiving injuries from which he died the next day. A verdict was returned that deceased died through falling down tho lift shaft. The coroner said that in reconstructing tho accident it was apparent that deceased went back to his office out of the lift, returning to the lift shortly afterward. The light being out, he pulled open the outer lift gate and fell down tho shaft on to the lift below.
