GENERAL ELECTION
LABOUR IN PARNELL SELECTING A CANDIDATE A selection ballot was held yesterdaj' to determine the Labour Party candidate ifor Parnell at the next general election. Voting took place at a number of polling places in the electorate. The returning officer, Mr. F. E. Martin. stated subsequently that there was no statement to make concerning the result of the ballot, which bad to be communicated to the national headquarters of the party at Wellington, which would make any announcement. The Labour Party' candidate for Parnell at the last general election was Mr. J. W. Yarnall, who polled 2401 votes against the 6947 votes recorded in favour of Mr. W. P. Endean, Government candidate and present member for the electorate. An Independent candidate, Mr. W. C. Hewitt, secured 1350 votes. Air. Endean's majority was 4546. THE OTAKI SEAT MR. W. APPLETON TO STAND [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION J WELLINGTON, Wednesday It is announced that Mr. W. Appleton, of Wellington, will be a candidate for the Otaki seat at the next general election.
