CUBAN REPUBLIC REVOLUTIONARY STRIKES MORE UNIONS JOIN CLASHES IN HAVANA PRESIDENT AS DICTATOR By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received March 11, 10.35 p.m.) HAVANA, March 11 As the result of the strike situation in Cuba a state of war was declared throughout the country this morning. It was stated last night that a general revolutionary strike was threatened when additional unions answered the ca]l for a walk-out at midnight.
Bombs were exploded in the clown town section of Havana and rifle fire added two deaths to the toll of four dead and eight wounded in Saturday night's outbreak which was the wildest since the revolution of 1933.
The Constitution has been suspended and the President, Colonel Mendieta, has been empowered to dictate any measures necessary to protect public order.
The powerful union of railway workers on the main lines between Havana and Santiago joined the strike yesterday.
