DEATH BY SHOOTING
INQUEST AT RUNCIMAN
The inquest into the death of Mrs. Olive Margaret Laing, aged 42 years, of Great South Road, Runciraan, was concluded before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., at the Papakura courthouse. Mrs. Laing died in the Auckland Hospital on the evening of February 27 from the effect of a rifle wound in the forehead.
Evidence had been given at Auckland bv the husband, William Horton Laing, that he camo into the house at midday on February 27 from working on tho farm. Ho found his wife in the kitchen, with the wound in the head and the rifle across the body. She was unconscious. He summoned the doctor and tho police. There were four children, who were school at the time. Constable T. Holland handed to the coroner a note left by deceased, which was found on the kitchen table. Evidence as to tho nature of tho wound was given by Dr. G. W. Lock, of Papakurn, who had Mrs. Laing admitted to the hospital. A ,verdict that death was due to shock caused by tho wound, which was self-inflicted, was returned.
