CUSTOMS REVENUE

AUCKLAND RETURNS TOTAL FOR ELEVEN MONTHS INCREASE IN CURRENT YEAR LARGER SUM IN SALES TAX Customs duties collected in Auckland during the 11 months of the financial year ended yesterday show an increase of £211,304 over those for the corresponding period last year. The receipts for the period totalled £2,385,044. The amount collected during February was £211,574, against £217,057 in the same month last year. The February total also showed a decrease on the amount collected in the previous month, £223,687. There was an increase in tho combined receipts of petrol duty and tyre tax both for the month just ended and for the 11 months of the financial year. The receipts for February were £48,942, against £41,933 for tho corresponding month of last year, while the total for the 11 months was £516,282, compared with £468,401. Again tho receipts for February wore lower than those for January of this year, tho decrease being £4716. The excise duty on beer collected in February amounted to £10,831, which was £1405 lower than that received during January, but slightly in excess of that for February of last year. Following is a comparison of petrol and tyre duties for the current 11 months and those of the first 11 months of the financial year ended March 31, 1934:

Sales Tax Details Sales tax revenue last month was £44,976, a decrease of £16,238 on the total for January, although it was greater by £l7B than the receipts .for February of last year. During the past 11 months the tax has brought in £587,241, compared with £511,421 in the corresponding period of 1933-34. The following monthly comparison is given:—

A steady increase in the growth of imports is shown in the customs revenue collected in Wellington this month. For the 11 months of the current financial year the revenue totals £2,243,065, an increase of £428,444. compared with the corresponding months of 1933-34. The net. customs revenue for February totalled £192,631, compared- with £153,697 in February, 1934. Motor spirits duty amounted to £57,348, as. against £53,340. The comparative petrol figures for the 11 months are £6.'34,919 and £647,771. The tyre tax for February yielded £1955, compared with £1053. For the 11 months, the figures are £22,015, Compared with £15,997.

Sales tax returns for- the month were £55,537, compared with £46,097 in February, 1934 '1 he total for the 11 months is £694,087. Beer excise oollections for February totalled £4851. compared with £4138 a year ago. the figures for 11 months being £52,263 and £49,609 respectively.
