CUSTOMS REVENUE

AUCKLAND RETURNS TOTAL FOR ELEVEN MONTHS INCREASE IN CURRENT YEAR LARGER SUM IN SALES TAX Customs duties collected in Auckland during the 11 months of the financial year ended yesterday show an increase of £211,304 over those for the corresponding period last year. The receipts for the period totalled £2,385,044. The amount collected during February was £211,574, against £217,057 in the same month last year. The February total also showed a decrease on the amount collected in the previous month, £223,687. There was an increase in tho combined receipts of petrol duty and tyre tax both for the month just ended and for the 11 months of the financial year. The receipts for February were £48,942, against £41,933 for tho corresponding month of last year, while the total for the 11 months was £516,282, compared with £468,401. Again tho receipts for February wore lower than those for January of this year, tho decrease being £4716. The excise duty on beer collected in February amounted to £10,831, which was £1405 lower than that received during January, but slightly in excess of that for February of last year.
