PLIGHT OF CRIPPLES
PLEA BY DOCTOR MODERN TREATMENT NEEDED \ [BY TKJ KGRAPJH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] TIMARU, Thursday A complaint that in New Zealand no organised effort was made to assist the economic battle of cripples was voiced by Dr. A. Gillies, of the Wellington Rotary Club, in addressing the New Zealand Rotary Conference today. He assorted that cases constantly came before the attention of members that emphasised the necessity for the formation of a society for crippled children in the Dominion. Dr. Gillies said that, in spite of the magnificent sunshine in New Zealand, no solarium treatment was available for affections of bones and joints, such as bone tuberculosis and unhealed bono abscesses. He urged the necessity of harnessing the sunshine, as well as the water of the Dominion. A system of centralising hospitalisation was needed in the principal cities, with special apparatus, and all aids to orthopaedic treatment, together with thorough after-care of patients.
