TRAFFIC IN HAMILTON
MORE RIGOROUS CONTROL NEW SCALE OF TAXI FARES [ FROM OCR own correspondent] HA if ILTOX. Thursday The recommendations of a special 1 transport committee set up with the object, of improving the regulation of traffic in Hamilton town area, were placed before the Hamilton Borough Council last night and adopted. Important measures are the limitation of taxi licences in the borough to 45, the introduction of a set scale of charges, and a reduction in the number of main street bus stands. / ''The council has recently been very . much concerned with the congestion of traffic irt Victoria Street/' said the Mayor, Mr J. R. Few, "and with the object of obtaining some improvement it is proposed rigorously to enforce the by-law* prohibiting private vehicles, from standing longer than 30 minutes Service cars or buses will not be allowed to remain on stops longer than three minutes." Under the new scale of t.xxs fares the charge for one or two passengers for any distance not exceeding a mile will be Is, and for each additional mile or part of a mile, 9d. For every passenger over two the charge is 3d a mile or part mile. Waiting time is to be charged at the rate of 6d for five miles. On Sundays, Good Fridays and Christmas Day. and between the hours of 11 o'clock at night and 6 o'clock in the morning on other days, the charge will be increased by half. The rate at present charged in Hamilton is 9d a mile, irrespective of the number of passengers carried.
