HAMILTON WATER
"DISAGREEABLE TASTE" ADDITIONAL PLANT PROPOSED K . . [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Thursday The quality of the Hamilton water supply was again the subject of considerable discussion at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last night.Mr. A. J. Den 7, said the Water was just as bad to-day as it was during the hot spell a fortnight ago. It had a disagreeable taste and a bad smell. The Mayor, Mr. J'. R. Fow, said there was a flavour in the w.\ter, but with the heavy daily draw-off of over 1,000,000 gallons, it was impossible for the ehlorination plant to remove all the flavour, which was principally noticeable wlien the water was warm. The water was subjected to a daily laboratory test, and was bacteriologicaily pure. The onlv way to deal with the flavour, added Mr. Fow, was by using additional plant. The Works Committee considered that as the cooler weather was approaching no harm would be caused if provision was made for the plant in next year's estimates. After further discussion it was decided to support the Works Committee's recommendation.
