FRONTIER FIGHTING
NORTH-WEST INDIA DEFEAT OF RAIDERS SMALL BRITISH CASUALTIES (Received February 27, 9.35 p.m.) CALCUTTA, Feb. 26 Ai fakir of Alingarh, known as " the mad fakir," who is a notorious Northwest frontier raider, is again causing trouble, which is necessitating action by British and Indian troops, artillery and Royal Air Force. The fakir, with a force of over 400 well-armed Utmankhel tribesmen, crossed the Swat River into the Kalakand area, which is under British administration, and attacked Imperial forces, which are constructing a defensive post to guard against further incursions. After continual sniping and frequent night raids, the tribesmen were forced into open conflict, in which they were heavily defeated and suffered many casualties. They retreated across the Swat River.
The British and Indian troops lost one killed and two wounded.
