CIVIL ENGINEERS

DELEGATES ENTERTAINED Delegates visiting Auckland for the annual meeting of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers attended a reception last evening in the Milne and Choyce Reception Hall. In the reception hall, where dancing took place, the stage was banked with palms and bowls of zinnias. Card tables were sot out in the Tudor room for those who preferred to plav bridge. Humorous items by Miss Edna Thomas, songs by Mr. .Robert Simmers and an eccentric dance by Mr. 11. Fenwick added to the evening's enjoyment. Music vas supplied by an orchestra under the leadership of Mr. Eric Bell. •The guests were received by Mr. Drummond Holderness, the retiring president of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers, and Mrs. Holderness, who was wearing a frock of water-lily green craquelle. Among those present were: —Mrs. F. E. de Guerrier, who wore navv patterned taffeta; Mrs. W. McKenzie Jeffrey, in black embossed georgette; Mrs. F. Kissell (Wellington), Burgundy crepe suede; Mrs. T. B Clay, black Chantilly lace; Mrs. Wilkie (Dunedin), lobelia blue lace; Mrs. J. A. Smith (Levin), heather brown georgette and lace; Mrs. S. E. Lamb, black souple satin; Mrs. G. T. Murray, black georgette; Mrs. T. Rabone, black georgette and lace; Mrs. A. Dickson, lacquer red crepe suede; Mrs. J. Tyler, black georgette and lace; Mrs. Wraight, geum red marocain; Mrs. B. Lee, reseda green ring velvet; Mrs. 0. J. Doidge, tunic frock of Royal blue and beige chenille. Mrs. K. M. Wright wore lacquer red marocain; Mrs. B. L. Hamilton, saxe blue craquelle; Mrs. J. A. B. Hellaby, black pleated georgette; Miss A. Wood, autumn tinted chiffon; Miss B. Rabone, patterned georgette; Miss rt. Smith (Levin), ivory georgette patterned in blue and pale yellow; Miss Freda Warnock, Chinese red crepe suede; Miss A. Bell, ice blue Chantilly lace; Miss M. Irving, Burgundy marocain; Miss Sheila Kissell (Wellington), ivory pebble crepe.
