BUILDING AT THAMES
CABINET APPROVES SCHEME \ SITE IN POLLEN STREET [by telegraph—own correspondent] THAMES, Wednesday Advice that approval had been given for the construction of a new post office building at Thames was received to-day by the secretary of the Thames Chamber of Commerce, Mr. J. Kernick, from Mr. J. Bitchener, acting Postmaster-General, in reply to a letter from the chamber requesting that, farther consideration be given to the proposed new post office building for Thames, for which the sum of £oooo has been on the estimates for several years. The letter stated that Cabinet had recently approved of the work being undertaken. The preparations of plans and specifications would be proceeded with, and tenders called in the near future. The existing post office building in Queen Street was formerly, occupied by the Lands and Survey Department, .the post office at that time being.situated near the present site of the County Chambers. The new post Office site is in Pollen Street, in a central business position.
