OVERSEAS ATHLETES

CONTESTS AT BUNEDIN RAMPLING WINS 440 YARDS INJURY TO DR. MURDOCH [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] DUNEDIN, Wednesday The visiting British and Finnish athletes took part in a sports meeting on the Caledonian Ground this evening. The track was slow and the weather cold. There was a large attendance. Rampling (Great Britain) won the 440 yds. and Powell (Great Britain) was placed second in the 880 yds. Rampling won his heat in the 220 yds. off scratch in 22 3-ss, but did not compete in the final. Perasalo (Finland) secured third place in the broad jump. Results were:—

Discus Throw. —Holt, 44ft. (135 ft. 6in.), 1; Ward, 40ft., 2; Spillane, 33ft., 3. Sippala (Finland), scr., threw 124 ft.

Broad Jump.—Johnson, Ift. 6in. 23ft. 6in., 1; Ward, Ift. 9in., 2; Perasalo (Finland), scr., 3. 440 Yds. —Rampling (Great Britain), .scr., 1; Tyrie, 11yds., 2; Gerken, 15yds., 3. Time, 50 2-ss. Javelin Throw.—Newall, 15ft. (215; ft. Bin.), I; Creeser, 45ft., 2; Ward, 65ft., 3. Sippala (Finland), scr., threw 203 ft. 9in.

One Mile.—L. C. McLachlan, scr., 1; Pullar, scr., 2; Morris, 30yds., 3. Time, 4m 26 l-ss. Craske (Great Britain) came fourth. •

High Jump.—Kennedy, lljin. (6ft. 3in.), 1; Metcalfe (Invercargill), Ift. 2in., 2; Longworth, Ift. 4in., 3. Perasalo (Finland), scr., jumped 6ft. 2in. Putting the Shot. —Morgan, Bft. (42ft. 9in.), 1; Dalgliesh (North Otago), lift. 6in., 2; Ward, 14ft., and Parkill (North Otago), 10ft., equal, 3. Sippala (Finland), scr., and Perasalo (Finland), 2ft. 3in., each threw 41ft. 3in.

880 Yds. —Allen, 20yds., 1; Powell (Great Britain), scr., 2; Austin, 15yds. 3. Time, lin 57 2-ss. Dr. Murdoch, the Scottish sprinter, did not make an appearance. He has strained a leg muscle and will not be able to run again this tour.
