WANGANELLA SAILS

DECISION BY MEN

SEQUEL TO MEETING

ORIGIN OF TROUBLE

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received' February 27. 12.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 26 A settlement of the Wanganella 'dispute has been reached, and the vessel sailed at 9.5 o'clock to-night for Auckland. At a meeting of stewards it was decided to return to duty, ."s their secretary was reported to have secured certain advantages for them. It was stated that other questions in dispute /would be settled during the absence of the ship. The dispute arose when the Wanganella was between Melbourne and Sydney. A steward and stewardess who. according to the Sydney manager of Huddart Parker, Limited, did not give satisfactory service, were given notice.

Following a meeting of stewards, they gave 24 hours' notice, to become effective ilf the steward, who was the union delegate on the vessel, and the stewardess were not reinstated. The steward and stewardess have not been reinstated. SHIP AT MELBOURNE MEN REVERSE DECISION CARGO FOR- NEW ZEALAND (Received, February 26, 9.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 26 The departure" of the cargo steamer James Cook for New Zealand was today postponed indefinitely in consequence of the decision of the Seamen's Union to refuse to man the ship unless additional trimmers were called for. CARRIAGE OF INWARD LETTERS

Owing to the dispute which delayed the Wanganella at Sydney, it is unlikely that/she will reach Sydney again on the return trip in time to catch the air mail for London, which will close at G p.m. on Tuesday. As a result it will be necessary to despatch air mail letters by the Franconia, which will leave Wellington to-morrow. The mail by this vessel closes at the chief post office, Auckland, at 1.30 this afternoon. ' ) Aijt the Wanganella should now reach New Zealand before either the Monowai or Niagara, which are due at Wellington and Auckland respectively on Monday, it is probable that she will bring the air mail which reached Sydney from London last Saturdiiy, as- was originally intended. The Wanganella will now probably arrive at Auckland on Saturday.
