STREET COLLECTION

COUNCIL DECLINES PERMIT GRANT OF £25 INSTEAD When an application from the Plunket Society seeking permission -to hold a street collection in the borough came before the Mount Eden Borough Council at its meeting last evening it was decided, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee, to refuse permission, but to make a donation of £25 instead.

Several members expressed the opinion that the holding of street collections almost invariably had a detrimental effect on the business done by local shopkeepers. It was decided to point out that the granting of the money- was on no account to be regarded as establishing a precedent.
