Rotokino, engaged in the Trial Stakes to-morrow, was bred by his ownur-trainer. R. Adamson, and is a threo-ye.ir-o!d telding by Robespierre from Scrambler, who was purchased by Adamson from Sir Charles Clifford and was raced by him wilh a fair amount of success. Rotokino had two races at Hokitika at Christmas and shaped very well. He galloped attractively yesterday, and although there will be several in tomorrow's field who will probably be better supported he may spring a surprise. Minerval will be an interesting contestant in the Midsummer Handicap. He has not had a race since the Auckland Cup meeting of last season, and persistent lameness has retarded his track activities, while uii injury recently received in the onddock delayed the desired preparation for to-mor-row's engagement. His mile gallop with Polydora in 1.44 2-5 yesterday was tiie first he has had in company since last raced, and although he went very satisfactorily he will require eomo racing to bring bim back and better results may be expected from hiin at Dunedin. Scr,itchmerc Scar's six furlongs gallon with Nightly yesterday in 1.15 3-5 has Drought him into keen favour for the Craven Plato to-morrow. He is still in the hack class and will be pitted against eome high-class performers, but he is a brilliant gullcper and under his light impost should keep the opposition busy over the busioess stares. A rider had not been engaged for lurn today, but it was hoped to secure a t.uilable horseman in the morning. Doiran figures in two races to-morrow, but will probably start in the Hornby Handicap, in which he will be ridden by his trainer, D. O'Connor, who lias had a remarkablo run of successes in the past two years in high-weight events, Doiran won the High-weight Handicap at Waikouaiti on Now Year's Day, but at Onmaru on the following -day he-was decisively beaten bv Haere Tonu and lasted only long enough to heat the non-staying Money Flies for second. His recent gallops have been very disappointing and his prospects over nine furlongs to-morrow cannot be considered very bright. Riding engagements for to-morrow_ are:— G. Humphries, Bun Fight, Abdication, Bella Rosa, Coat of Arms, Grand Review. Fair Weather; W. Jenkins, Royal Sceptre. Sundance, Cleaner; J. W. Jennings, Knock Out,"Rotokino; M. Kirwan. Chidden, Polydora, Colossian; C. Eastwood, Patrolc; E. Leckic, Silver Sight, Golden Dart, Lowater; C C. McCarthy, Madam Pompadour- A. Messervy, Tout le Monde, Gas Mask, Grecian Prince, Greek Shepherd. Sky Rover, Doiran; S. Bryce. Knowledge; W. Cooper. Radiant Rose, Rebel Queen: A. C. Messervy. Silly Owl, Back Thrust; A. E. Ellis. Nightform. Imperial, Spear, Invoice. 'lod Rank. Nightly; B. *&. Brodie. Moonbeam: C Brodie. Hot Stuff; A. S. Ellis, Courtyard; J, Fowler. Quebec; H. Turner, Ratiolagh: J. Veevers. Jerry Boy; L. J. Ellis. Fracas. Gaysome, Emissary, Silver Coat. Honcste, Importance, Hostis; R. Beale. Rin Tin Tin. CUDDLE'S HURRIED TRIP HASTINGS TO CHRISTCHURCH [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRKSTONDENTJ CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Cnddln and Sunny Maid arrived nt Riccarton this morning and were given exere.ise on the tracks in the afternoon. Ihey travelled from Hastings to Wellington bv motor-float. yesterday and . were taken straight to the steamey. find in face of the hurried trip it is possible that Cuddle will be started in the Craven Plate to-morrow in preference to the Midsummer Handicap, VETERAN RACING PATRON FIFTY-FIVE TARANAKI CUPS To have seen every race for the Taranaki Cup since 1879 i s the record of Mr. T. Taylor, of Waitara, aged 70. A pioneer of lnglewood and a champion athlete of the early days, Mr. Taylor saw Fersen score on Thursday, the 55th winner in succession he has witnessed.
