THE CITY MARKETS

PEACHES SELL CHEAPLY VEGETABLES STILL DEAR f Peaches and plums brought low prices at the City Markets yesterday. Hothouse grapes also sold fairly cheaply, many lines being hard to quit. Thure was a good demand for coloured apples, but cookers were slow of sale. Good quality nectarines sold well, as did tomatoes, the glut in these appearing to be definitely over. Heavy supplies of carrots and kumaras were ottered, prices falling in both lines. There were also large quantities of watermelons, which sold very cheaply. Good quality celery brought fairly high prices, but there was very little demand for cucumbers, which were in heavy supply. Pumpkin values decreased considerably owing to the large number offering Cabbage and cauliflower supplies were again low and prices high. Poultry prices were practically the same as those earlier in the week, the supply being heavy and the demand good. POLLARD PRICES RAISED EFFECT OF DRY WEATHER The price of local pollard was advanced 10s a ton yesterday, the new value being £7 a ton at the mills, or £7 5s through store. Bran is unchanged at £5 15s ex mill and £6 through store. ' The long period of dry weather has caused a very heavy demand for both bran and pollard, and stocks have been short for some time. Local supplies are being augmented by importations from Australia, but in the meantime Australian pollard is unchanged at from £7 to £7 5s a ton, through store.
