PROTECTION OF PUKEKOS

REQUEST FCR REMOVAL

FARMERS' RESOLUTION A request that the Hawko's Bay Acclimatisation Society remove the protection from the pukeko has been made by the Hastings branch of the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Union. The matter was discussed by the llawke's Bay Acclimatisation Societj this week. The chairman, Mr. H. M. Bishop, stated that he had airdy written to the union pointing out that the restrictions affecting the shooting of pukeko must come from the Department of Internal Affairs.

The Hawke's Biy Farmers' Union forwarded a resolution to the society asking that the protection of the pukeko be removed. The letter stated that the birds wire getting far too numerous and were responsible for much damage to farmers' crops by pulling up young slants of maize and mangolds.
