MORTGAGE FINANCE

SUGGESTION TO MINISTER ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Thursday A letter has been sent by Mr. A. 0. Heany, secretary of the Associated ClTtimbers of Commerce, to the Minister of Finance, I?t. Hon. J. G. Coates, in which, referring to the published criticism of the mortgage corporation, and to the alternatives suggested, Mr. Heany says:—"These alternative proposals were necessarily outlined very briefly. For all that they were earnestly put forward, after careful thought and consideration, in the endeavour to deal equitably with the whole problem of mortgage finance. An opportunity to discuss them with you would be greatly appreciated, since the committee is still strongly desirous of being helpful and constructive."

The letter proceeds to suggest that the Minister should arrange a roundtable eonfercnce between the committee, the Minister's staff, and a representative committee of the New Zealand Farmers' Union at present in conference in Wellington, to discuss alternative methods, the subject to be then further discussed with the Minister personally. Confidence is expressed that such contact would remove many misunderstandings.
