OBITUARY

MR. JOHN BURKE The death has occurred in his 86th year, of an old resident of Dominion 'Road, Mr. John Burke, who was wellknown as a contractor, was born in County Clare, Ireland, and came to New Zealand in the ship Salisbury in 1850. For some years he lived in the Bay of Islands, but later settled in Auckland. Mr. Burke was for many years a member of the Auckland and Otahuhu Trotting Clubs, and was a staunch adherent of the Roman Catholic Church. He is survived bv six daughters, four sons, 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. MR. KENNETH MACAULAY

The death occurred at W,aipu last evening of Mr. Kenneth Macaulay, aged 77, an old resident of the district. Born in Nova Scotia, Mr. Macaulay came to New Zealand with nis parents in the ship Breadabane when he was three years old. In his youth he spent some years in Queensland, but eventually returned to New Zealand and settled in the Waipu district. Mr. Macaulay, whose wife died some years ago, leaves three sons and two daughters. MR. F. A. PRICE [BY TEJjEGBAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCAEGILL, Wednesday The death has occurred of Mr. Frederick Augustus Price, a well-known landowner and stock dealer, aged 80 years. Arriving in New Zealand in 1861 he followed his trade as a builder for several years, and erected the first customs house in Invercargill. Ho then Embarked in farming and stock dealing, which ho carried on successfully until his death. He was a keen sportsman, among horses he owned being Rorke's Drift, which won over £IO,OOO. MR. N. H. CAMPBELL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Wednesday . The death has occurred of Mr. N. H. Campbell, who was the Labour candidate for the Chalmers seat at the last general election. Mr. Campbell underwent an operation yesterday, from which he failed to recover. He was a member of the Port Chalmers Borough Council for many years.
