CASE AGAINST WOMAN

TRIAL ON THREE COUNTS EVIDENCE NOT COMPLETED Pleas of not guilty to three charges of illegally using an instrument on two North Auckland women were entered by Adelaide Porter, married, aged 42, whose trial commenced before Mr. Justice Eerdman, in the Supreme Court yesterday. The case for the Crown was conducted by Mr. V. R. Meredith. Mr. Singer appeared for accueed.

Addressing the jury, the Crown Solicitor said 'that in both instances the object had been obtained without subsequent danger. It was alleged that accused had with her a bag in which, the jury would be informed, there were drugs and articles, and a pair of neat white overalls whjch accused donned, "so that she tvas quite professional in style."

It was alleged that accused saw a young woman at Dargaville and Kaikohe, her feci being £l3. The sum of £lO was paid in. cash, Mr. Meredith continued, aurd a cheque for £3 was cashed by accused .in Auckland. A police sergeant approached accused in Dargaville and. said he had a warrant to search her room at a hotel. Regarding a bag produced in Court, accused was alleged to have stated, " Don't open it. Yoi:i will find all you want there." Accused was later questioned regarding a woman living in Dargaville.; . . .

Evidence was given by a Maori woman, aged 23, living at Kaikohe, that, she was taken to see a Mrs. Thornton at Dargaville, and a certain act was performed. Mrs. Thornton later saw witness at Kaikohe. A young Maori who had been in the company of the girl siiid he had made out a requisition for a money order for £3, payable to A. Thornton, and a resident of Dargaville said he had banked this sum, later forwarding a cheque for the amount. to Mrs. Porter. This witness said he, knew accused as Mrs. Thornton and Mni. Porter. A young married woman, of Dargaville, said a woman visited her home in October, "and performed a certain act. Witness, did not think she could identify the woman.

At this stage the case was adjourned until this morning.
