RING IN BRITAIN

PHILLIPS BEATS FARR NEUSEL DEFEATS PETERSEN (Received February 5. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON". Feb. 4 In a boxing bout at Mountain Ash for the British cruiser-weight championship Eddie Phillips (London) defeated Tommy Farr (Wales), the holder on points. The loser was severely punished, both his eyes being injured. In a contest at Wembley Walter Neusel defeated Jack Petersen in the 11th round. The opening rounds were contested at a terrific pace. Both men fought like furies and took punishment in ■an endeavour to score a decisive blow. Neusel was far the more effective. Petersen, in spite of gallant efforts, failed to keep the German at long range and was rocked by blow after blow and he was on the verge of falling when the towel was thrown in. It was a tragic bout for Petersen who had hoped that a victory would enable him to meet Hamas as a preliminary to a match with Max Baer. Petersen said he lost because he was blinded by blood. A 1 Burke beat Seaman Howies on poinis in eight rounds at Wembley. At Warrington Nel Tarleton beat Norman Milton, of Warrington, on points in 10 rounds.
