NEW MOTOR-SHIPS

SERVICE TO DOMINION ELEVEN MODERN VESSELS PORT WYNDHAM COMPLETED The eleven large motor-ships ordered by different shipping companies for carrying refrigerated cargoes i'rorn New Zealand and Australia to Great Britain are nearly completed, six of the vessels being already in commission. The next ship to be commissioned will be tho Commonwealth and Dominion Line's motor-ship Port Wyndham, which made a successful trial run on the Clyde on January 4. Like the othef vessels completed, she is very fast <ind her mean average speed on the trials was 18.25 knots.

The eleven motor-ships ordered include three each for the Blue Star Line, the Shaw, Savill and .Albion Line, and the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, and two for the Federal Line.

The Commonwealth and Dominion Line's motor-ship Port Chalmers was the first to be completed, and she has already made several voyages to NewZealand. She is being followed by the Port Wyndham and the Port Townsville. Two of the Shaw, SaviH and Albion Company's new vessels, the "Waiwera and the Waipawa, have both made their maiden voyages to New Zealand, and they will be followed shortly by the third vessel, the Wairangi. The two vessels for the Federal Line, the Dorset and Durham, are in, commission, the Dorset having made a voyage to Australia, and the Durham being due there shortly. The first of the three vessels ordered by the Blue Star Line, the Imperial Star, is now at Auckland on her maiden voyage. The' other two vessels will also come to New Zealand on their maiden voyages, the New Zealand Star being due at Lyttelton on Apri! 22, and the Australian Star at a New Zealand port, not announced, on May 16. All the vessels ordered are the latest type of motor-ships built specially for the carriage of refrigerated cargoes and chilled meat. Each will hare a maximum speed of over 18 knots.
