MISHAP TO YACHT

COLLISION WITH SCOW CREW ESCAPE INJURY Whije competing in the Royal Xew Zealand Yachu Squadron's night race to Kawnu on Friday the C class keel yacht, Gloriana, owned by Mr. E. Spicer, came into collision with the auxiliary scow Scott. No serious damage was done and the crew escaped injury. The Gloriana was sailing in the vicinity of Tiritiri Island when the accident occurred, while the Scott, which was under sail as well as power, was proceeding toward Auckland. "At the time of the accident we were sailing before a light southerly breeze and had a spinnaker and leader set," said one of the crew of the yacht. "We saw the scow approaching from sliglulv on our port Low, bii-, thought that we would be seen as our navigation lights were burning brightly." He said the scow struck the yacht's bowsprit and snapped it off. Another member of the crew of the Gloriana, who had been standing ori the end of the bowsprit, made a leap for the deck just before the accident occurred. He was knocked down and dazed, but fortunately not fall overboard. The Seott stood by until the damage was ascertained and the crew of Jhe Gloriana decided to continue in the race.
