SANDERS CUP RACE
WEATHER TOO ROUGH SECOND CONTEST POSTPONED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] HALF MOON BAY, Friday Stewart Island has experienced a run of very unsettled weather and to-day. after an exceptionally stormy night, it was found impossible to bontinue with the second race in the Sanders Cup contest. The seas in Paterson Inlet were high this morning and, whipped by a westerly gale, pounded relentlessly against the rocky slicrres. When heavy rain swept the headlands in the inlet the scene from the observation rock was one of wild and noble grandeur. In the circumstances the 14-footers could not possibly leave the landing stage. At five o'clock this afternoon the weather was showing no signs of an improvement and the prospects were not encouraging for the race to-morrow morning, and for the regatta to bo held on Half Moon Bay in the afternoon. Tho Otago boatUetty has had a new hardwood tiller fitted in place of tho kauri one that broke in yesterday's race. The beading on the boat also was damaged. It probably happened when tho launch went alongside to take the craft back to port.
