WORK ON ROADS REPORT BY ENGINEER 'Reporting to the Waitemata County Council yesterday on roading works in the various ridings, the county engineer. stated that the Public Works Department was making good progress ■with the metalling of the Kanohi Road, TTfliiltnpakapa. and it was hoped to complete the work early in February. Tenders would probably be called, closing about the middle of next month, for the sealing of the'Auckland-Helens-ville main highwav from Hnapai to Waimauku.
Top-dressing had been carried out on the Waikumete-West Coast Road before Christmas, the road having stood up very well to the heavy traffic. Tallies taken indicated that during the holidays up to 750 vehicles a day had been using the route. Plans are being prepared and surveyn have been put in hand in connection with the following works, for whioh it is ultimately intended to seek the sanction of the Local Government Loans Board for a loan poll:—Castpr Bay culvert. Mairangi Bay culverts and eea-wall, work on Brown's Bay wharf, eilplanade and bathing shed. Advice ; was received by the council that a .local company intends to ereH a factory for the manufacture of ainchovy paste and the canning of sardines at Silverdale. The company was seeking certain information regarding regulations
