LOAN IN LONDON

CONVERSION OF £5,000,000 INDICATION BY MR. COATES [by telegraph—press association] DUNEDIN, "Wednesday In an interview on his arrival from the North this afternoon the Minister of Finance, Mr. Coates, said a Government loan of £5,000,000 would mature in England in July, and he indicated that steps would be taken in the near future with a view to its conversion.

Asked whether he could say anything further concerning the state of the public accounts for the first nine months of the present financial year, Mr. Coates said that figures which were at present in the audit stages had not reached him yet, and he was unable to express any opinion as to the amounts that would be yielded by particular sources of revenue.

London loans which the New Zealand Government has the option of converting this year are shown in a return attached to the Budget as follows: — £2,090.909, vear of maturity, 1925-45; £3,989,100, 1933-43; £37,000,' 1934-35; £120.800, 1935-36; £10,135,800, J93545. The Government has the option to redeem on or after the earlier date on giving notice in the London Gazette.
