MINING NEWS
WETHERSTONES REOPENING Wetherstones Goldmining Company, Limited (Otago) reports that operations were suspended for four months, during which time a complete geophysical survey of the company's claim was made. This was necessary owing to a serious fault having been discovered at the location of the incline shaft. Proposals for the future development of the claim have been prepared by the company s engineers in conjunction with the Mines Department and tha Department of Industrial Research. Jinancial arrangements have been made which will permit of a definite programme extending over five months, and during the period of operations the engineers anticipate that they will then be able to definitely prove the extent of the gold values. The mine manager anticipates that he will be operating three full shifts within about two weeks. REPORTS OF MANAGERS Dawn of Hope (Thames'*. —The low level to intersect the reef has been advanced 12ft. for the week, making a total of 31ft. A splendid class of andesite is beag met with.
