REACTIONS IN GOLF
AUSTRALIA EXPECTS BENEFIT Already the immediate excitement consequent upon tho big round of Centenary and other important events associated with the visit of famoub overseas golfers has passed, and we arc getting back to normal, says a Melbourne golf writer. For a while the usual summer "quietness" will prevail on the links, but ere long thousands of enthusiasts will bo seriously down on their games again. In reactions benpficial to the ganio we expect much in year that has just : dawned. From the general observations of tho rank and file we expect an all-round minor ''lift" in the standard of play. Particularly do wo anticipate among this section of golfers an improvement in the. short game where the Americans showed us that many strokes could be saved. More particularly still is it anticipated that fewer 'shots will be wasted from visits to bunkers, for to n man the visitors showed us that one shot from the green-side trap and one putt is what they invariably expect—and nearly always get..
