APPOINTMENT AT WHANGAREI [from our own correspondent] "WHANGAREI, Tuesday The appointment of Mr. R. H. Allan as borough council representative on the Whangarei Harbour Board waa decided upon by the Whangarei Borough Council last evening. The Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, said it was mandatory upon the council to fill the. vacancy, which was caused by the death of Mr. J. E. Holmes. In view of the near approach of the borough council elections it was decided not to fill the vacancy on the council caused by Mr. Holmes' death. A motion of condolence with Mr. Holmes' relatives was passed. Mr. Jones said Mr. Holmes' death was a very real loss to the town. He had served the borough as Mayor and as councillor over a period of more than 20 yearsHis knowledge and advice had been invaluable.
