FAT LAMB KILLINGS

ACTIVITY ON RAILWAYS STOCK TRAINS WELL FILLED [by TELEGRAPH OWN' correspondent"] PALMERSTOX NORTH. Monday Now that the fat lamb killing season is at its height a large number of stock trains are passing through Palmerston North on the way to Petone and Ngahauranga. Each night there are usually four trains on the way to the works, an average of 800 trucks weekly containing 70 lambs each, making a weekly total of about 56,000 lambs. The present season promises to last some time, the indications being that fat stock will be passing through Palmerston North until about May. Not only does fat stock from Hawke's Bay, Rangitikei, Wanganui and main trunk areas go through Palmerston North to Wellington, but freezing works at Longburn also take considerable quantities of stock. SHEEP FROM EAST COAST CONSIGNMENTS FOR WAIKATO [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Monday A special sheep train carried 2100 sheep to Frankton Junction. The sheep were driven from the Poverty Bay district and trucked from the railhead at Taneatua. Another consignment of 2545 head was landed by the Pakura at Tauranga yesterday from Tokomaru Bay. The sheep were immediately railed to Morrinsville. The Pakura is due again to-morrow with a load which will be landed at Mount Maunganui and driven to Te Puke.
