RODNEY COMPETITION The two leading teams in the Rodney Cricket Association's competition, Matakana and Whangaripo, met at Matakana on Saturday. Matakaua gained a two-point win. Scores: — Matakana.—First innings, 169 (W. Dunning 10G, A. Langridge 12, E. Campbell 11, 11. Langridge 11). Bowling: G. Pool five for 22, P. Dunning four for 81. Whangaripo: First innings, 132 (S. At the High School grounds City in the second innings made 156 (Hughes 58. Crawshaw 20), defeating High School with a three-point win. WAIHI VISITS TE AROHA [from our own correspondent] TE AROHA, Monday At cricket at Herries' Memorial Park on Saturday Waihi and Tc Aroha played a one-innings game, which was won by Te Aroha by 130 runs to 76. The highest ecorers for the winning team were Siieehy (49) and Cleave (23), and for Waihi Douglas (16) and Thornton (14). Johnson (Te Aroha) took four wickets for 10 nnd Raeburn three for 7. The most successful Waihi bowlers were McGlusky, four for 33, and Stane, four for 43. Monday A cricket match for the Attrill Cup played at Tnuranga between Rotorua and the Tauranga, County team was won by Rotorua by 248 runs to 172. The best scores for Rotorua were McGill (61). Harding (50), Lunn (31), Hinton (24). Those for Tauranga were registered by Mason (not out 50), Steele (41), Johnston (21). Rotorua will meet Opotiki in the next match for the Attrill Cup. Switzer 49). defeated Mangonui, 79.
WHANGAREI COMPETITION [l'llOil OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Monday The third series of games in [he supplementary Wilding-Whimp Shield cricket championship competition was played on Saturday in beautiful midsummer weather. Whangarei. 116 (Nisbet 30 not out, Wilson '23 Flewellyn 21) defoated Onerohi, 91 (Drake 13, Hawkes 20. C. Whimp 30). For Onerahi, Cunis took seven wickets for 39 runs, and for Whangarei Nisbet took five wickets for 14 runs. , ~ . At Maungakaramea, Nomads were fill out for the surprisingly small total of 58 runs (Godfrey 16). Fayne look five wickets for 34 runs and Charles three wickets for *.4 runs. Maungakaramea responded with an even smaller total of 'l3 runs (Crawford 18). Dunn was the destructive bowler lor Nomads, taking five wickets for 10 runs. When Nomads went in again E. Collins carried his bat throughout the innings for 53, the innings totalling 94 runs (Kelly Id, Dunn 14). Fayne was again a most destructive force, taking six wickets for 49 runs. At the drawing of stumps Maungakaramea had lost five wickets in their second innings for 63 runs (Bint 15, L. CVCarroll 17).. . Hikurangi won by defuuit from Combined Services, and with five points are now second to Nomads,, who have six points. Two more rounds in this competition nave yet to bo played.
