SMART SPRINTS RECORDED CARFEX'S FIVE FURLONGS RURI PROGRESSING WELL [from our own correspondent] HAWERA, Monday After a quiet time since the holiday racing, track proceedings at Haw era have livened up, in view of the coming meetings. Fast work was resumed this morning, whdn the plough was in use. Arouse (Cole).'who is to race at Trentham, galloped lralf-a-mile down the back in 51s. An interesting gallop was performed by Silver Wings (Feasey) and Carfex (Cole) over five furlongs. Silver Wings, commencing brilliantly, shaded her companion over the first part, cutting out two furlongs in •24s and three in 30s. Carfex .ioined her then and over the concluding stages easily held her. finishing three lengths in front in Run' was allotted a pricing gallop and ran his last six furlongs iu 1.24}. The two-year-old Exquisite sprinted three furlongs in 36}s. Harvest Moon (Edgecombe) and Agn Ivhan (Cole) were associated over four furlongs in Tils. Aga Khan went very attractively, finishing two and a-lialt lengths in front, Hiirvest Moon went fast over the first two furlongs in 211s, but faded over the last quarter. . Autumn Leaf's Sprint Ingenuity's task was a couple of rounds of strong pacing. . , ... Fersen (Coylo) shaped nicely oyer half-a-milo in 50 2-ss. Autumn Leaf (Cole) senmpered over three in. 3/is. Silk Sox. Onewhetu. Friesland and .bowenberg were given useful pace work. The light-weight jockey W. E. l ino 's transferring to Palmerston ISorth under engagement to liis uncle, W. Pine, with whom lie served his apprenticeship. . Carfex is to race at Wanganui. Ho is a remarkablo little horse, as, after returning from Auckland, feeling the effects o£ the hard going, he has freshened up wonderfully, after a short respite. In his tirst gallop this morning since his return ne worked in great style. _ . , C'opey, who secured his expenses at AUCKland l>y running second .to v alpeen, is enjoying a spell until it is time for him to bo prepared for autumn racing. With 10 wins and 19 placings. Hawera horses collected over £I4OO in stake-money during the holiday racing. Golden Hair Resumes J Fryer has been giving Run plenty of solid work and the Surveyor gelding is rapidly getting into shape. Run can be expected to show up prominently in the course of the coming meetings. . Silver Win<rs. who is always inclined .to show symptoms of Boreness when racing 011 hard tracks, came through her recent outings in good shape and. all going well, is to compete at Trentham. One could not bo enamoured of her chance in the Wellington Stakes. _ _ . . , O. Cox has had Golden Hair returned looking particularly well after her let up. She should not require much time to reach racing condition. Fersen is going on satisfactorily and naa done well since Stratford. He will be an interesting competitor at Trentham. J Brown will take Arouse and Harvest Moon to Trentham. The latter gave himself a bit of a knock, but it ib nothing serious. . , Aga Khan looks sure to pick up a race during the coming meetings. H. Vine is looking after one of the best' looking Sandstar's seen here, a full sister to Sandlark. She is much better proportioned than her relative and can gallop f "j Fryer will soon have a big team .coing again, as three new arrivals have joined his stables recently. Stanchion and Haunui have been recommissioned. and a halfbrother to Panlof by Tonbridge has been taken in hand.
