ANNIVERSARY REGATTA

QUESTION OF FLAGSHIP DEPUTATION TO THE MAYOR The question of securing a suitable flagship for the Auckland Anniversary Regatta on Tuesday, January 29, caused considerable discusion at a meeting of the Regatta Committee last evening. The chairman, Mr. T. L. Thompson, said it was to be regretted that a warship would not be available for flagship on regatta day. The committee had made every effort to secure a boat, but so far it had not met with success. In the past a warship had been placed at the disposal of the committee, but this year the request for a vessel had been declined. Mr. T. McKnight said that as the Regatta .Committee was carrying out the regatta on behalf of the citizens of Auckland, the committee had a right to demand a warship to act as flagship. Mr. A. J. Collings said there was every possibility of a small trading vessel being available for use of the officials only on regatta day. Mr. A. Thompson suggested that the chairman, vice-chairman and secretary should wait on the Mayor and seek his assistance in securing a flagship. After further discussion Mr. Thompson's suggestion was agreed to.

Advice, was received from the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, to the effect that he hoped to be in Rotorua at the end of this month and would probably attend the regatta.
