MR. JAMES HARVEY

[fbom ocb ows cobrespoxdest] Thursday The death .has occurred at Leamington of Mr. James Harvey at the ag« of SI years. Born at Dover, England, Mr. Harvey followed a seafaring career during his early life and came to Ne» Zealand in IS7S. He was married ia ISS3 to Miss Kate Haines, of Lower Hutt, and shortly afterwards took np land at Paimerston Xorth. Mr. Harvey came to the Waikato about 30 years ago, and farmed successfully at Monavale and Karapiro. He retired 12 years ago to live in Leamington. He is survived by his wife, three sons. Messrs. Henry, Kaipaki, William., Pukekohe, and Leslie, Hamilton . East, and frr» daughters. Mrs. Brewer. Karapiro, Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. D. Dairs, Paimerston Xorth. Mrs. Podmore, Foxton, and Mrs. Hansen, Okoroire.

SIR ARTHUR FELL The late Sir Arthur Fell, who died on Saturday at his home cm Wimbledon Common, near London, was a member of a family well known in New Zealand. He was the fourth son of Mr. Alfred Fell, who came to New Zealand and settled at Nelson in 1542. Sir Arthur went to England at -an early age and was educated privately ;ind at St. John's College, Oxford, taking bil master of arts degree. He practised la* in London for many years, retiring and entering the House of Commons as Conservative and L'nionist member fo/ Great Yarmouth in 1906. He held hi* seat in Parliament all through th« great Chamberlain Colonial, Preference elections, wliea the Conservative Party was reduced to a little over ICO members. He finally retired from Parliament in 1919. receiving a knighthood for hi* Parliamentary services. He was chairman of the Channel Tunnel Committer of the House of Commons for many years.
