CLEARANCE OF SLIPS NORMAL RUNNING TO-DAY The slips which occurred 011 the northern railway line 011 Wednesday wore not as serious as was at first anticipated. It is expected that, subject to speed restrictions on several repaired stretches of track, a more or less normal schedule will be observed to-day 011 all linos between Opua and Auckland. Tho railway authorities consider that the 8.40 a.m. train from Auckland to Opua should arrive at its destination not very long after tho normal time, which is shortly after fivo o'clock. Several repair gangs were kept busy yestorday and before dusk repairs had boon effected to all sections affected by Wednesday's slips.
Yesterday morning the service cars and mail vans from the North met tho train at Otiria and passengers' luggage and motor-cars wore taken by rail to Kawakawa. There two cars were unloaded from the train and used to transport the passengers to Towai, where tlioy met tho ordinary express to Auckland.
In the evening, service oars met the train at Towai and brought the passengers for all points north of Towai to Kawakawa. The cars were transported to Otiria by rail and there picked up tlioir ordinary running, tho Kaikolie passengers continuing by train. Traffic beyond Kaikohe is still held up as the result of slips which occurred several weeks ago. It is not known when the line will bo open again.
