RACES ATTENDED

PRESENTATION OF CUP GOVERNMENT HOUSE BALL Only two days remain of the visit of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, to Auckland. His Royal Highness has received a slightly injured foot as the result of a cut obtained while bathing on Tuesday. It is hoped he will be able to carry out his public engagements, but he must rest his foot as much as possible. He was unable to be present at the ball given in his honour at Government House last evening. The principal engagement in the programme of His Royal Highness yesterday, - his third day in the city, was attendance at the opening of the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting at Ellerslie. The picturesque racecourse, with its green lawns, shady trees and blazing flower-beds, provided a splendid setting for a memorable occasion, when racegoers in their thousands united to pay an enthusiastic tribute to the Prince. During the afternoon, he presented the Auckland Cup to the winning owner. The Prince enjoyed his second sea bathe in Auckland yesterday morning, when he visited Mission Bay. A happy informal event in the afternoon, on his return from Ellerslie, was the receipt of his Christmas mail, sent from England by the first direct air mail service to Australia, and carried on its final stage from Brisbane to Auckland by the Oronsay. The Prince will attend a children's rally at the Domain this morning. A short visit will be made to the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting at Alexandra Park this afternoon, a f ter which His Royal Highness will attend a garden party at Government House. He will be the guest of the Northern Club sit dinner this evening. There are no official engagements on the Princes programme to-morrow morning. He will leave for Hamilton by special train at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon, thus concluding a stay of nearly five days in Auckland.
