CAMPERS IN THE NORTH
UNUSUALLY HEAVY TRAFFIC COAST RESORTS POPULAR [from ouk own correspondent] WARKTVORTH, "Wednesday Since the week-end there has been unusually heavy traffic, even for the Christmas season, on the Main North Road. The great majority of the cars are northward bound, and there is a marked increase in the number of campers, caravans and trailers being much moro in evidence than in any previous year. This is chiefly duo to the improved travelling conditions on the highways and to the extension of camping facilities to even the smaller centres in the North.
Camps arts established at a very largo number of beaches in tho district, and the camping ground at Waiwera is fully occupied. There is also a large number of camps on private property along the coast, ah JVlahurangi Heads, Snell's Beach and Leigh. At Snell's Beach to-day a crowd of about 300 people had gathered. Waiwera was also very popular with picnickers. The number of holidaymakers on the coast this year probably constitutes a record. The weather yesterday and to-day was fairly fine, although the intense heat of last week was not experienced. At times the sky was overcast and there was a steady easterly wind, but conditions were not sufficiently boisterous to prevent bathing. To-day was a little warmer than yesterday. Tho indications are that the weather will clear shortly.
