ARRIVAL OF VISITORS

KOKE SOUTHERN HORSES - SPIRAL AND GRAND JURY AUTOPAY OUT OF RAILWAY BY AHCHER "With the iirriv«l of a number of southern horses on Saturday, practically all the candidates for the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting, with the exception of those trained at Tnkanini. .\vondalo and on tho provincial tracks, have reached Fllerslie, so that there "\yi 11 be a large muster for the final gallops on the course proper this morning. The going is again likely to he fast and as was tho ease on Saturday some attractive gallops should be recorded. The latest arrivals include Spiral and romp, trainee by W. Rayner at Wanganui; Cherry King and Grand Jury, trained hv L.' G. Morris at Mart on; Round Up and Hunting Scene, trained by Mrs. A. W. McDonald at Awapuni; Happy Landing, trained by E. "Wilson at Hastings; and Synagogue, Debham, Going Gay and Princess Dorecn, trained by T. 15. George at Trentham. The horses were all out working usefully yesterday and will probably gallop this morning. Caliente to Run in Cup All the Auckland Cup candidates with the exception of Solarium and Caliente are now-at Ellerslie, and unless anything .unforeseen occurs it is almost certain that Sweet Agnes will be tho only one of those engaged who will be absent when the field goes to tho post. Sweet Agues, who has been regarded as a doubtful runner, has developed lameness, and her trainer, T. H. Cillett, stated yesterday that she will have to miss all her engagements at the meeting. As Caliente is an acceptor for both . the Auckland Cup and the Christmas Handicap there has been a doubt as to which she would contest. However, this was cleared tip tvhen her owner, Mr. J. L. Webb, announced on Saturday that she would contest tho Cup, and would probably be ridden by 0. Reed. Caliente, with Alloy to assist over the last six, galloped nine furlongs in good style at Avoiulale on Saturday, running the last mile in lm. 435., and finishing in front of Alloy and another companion, who joined in at the half-mile. Kiltowyn's Good Work As far as actual times have been concerned, none of the Oup horses lias recorded better gallops than Kiltowyn, and his track form indicates that be is better than ever. Vintage is another who has been doing his work impressively and his defeat ot Rocket on Saturday,- when he went with considerable dasli and covered a lot of ground, gained him many friends. Soutlidown's work on Saturday was also pleasingly accomplished and his chance may be better than his running in the Duke of Gloucester Handicap at Trentham would suggest. Gay Marigold, who went on tho tan with King March, again acquitted herself in good style and she and her stablcmate should "strip two of tho fittest horses in the field. Even though he was lightly weighted, the five furlongs' gallop of King Ford on Saturday was good, but on past performance it is doubtful whether he is class enough to win the Railway Handicap. Besides King Ford, J. I'. Tutohen also has f Gay Seton and Sinking Fund engaged in the sprint, and they also recorded pleasing efforts on Saturday, indicating that they are at the top of their form. The horses race in different interests, and will probably all compete. No rider has been secured for King Ford, but R. Home is to rido ' Gay Seton, and E. W. McTavish will be on Sinking Fund. Latest Scratchings The southern horseman, K. yoitre, has been engaged to ride Major P. Kerr-Smiley's horses. Nun Nicer_ and Persian, on Wednesday. Nun Nicer, who has two engagements, is to contest the Robinson Handicap in preference to the Queen's Plate. Persian, a useful performer in Australia, will be having his first race in_ New Zealand in the Christmas Handicap. He is a five-year-old bay horse by Legionnaire or Spelthorne- from, Pura. and won four races last season. At his last start at Rand wick on October 1, Persian cartied Bst. 61b., and was beaten by threeparts of a length by Shatter, 7st. 111b. in the Squatters' Handicap, 1J miles, in 2m 7^s. Autopny was scratched for all engagements at the meeting at 12.10 p.m. on Saturday. The defection of Autopav will leave the three-year-old Sporting Blood topweight in the Railway Handicao with ,Bst. 41b. Du Barry has been withdrawn from the Great' Northern Foal Stakes and the Nursery Handicap.

INJURY TO CARRICKORE

MAY NOT START ON WEDNESDAY The two-year-old Carrickore. who was brought from Australia to compete at the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting injured one of bis feet as the result of picking tm a splinter of wood; and it is unlikely that he will be able to _<eep his engagement in the Nursery Handicap on W~dn»«dav. Carrickore is a chestnut colt riy Iliad, from Fleeting, and is regarded as Promising.
