A special meeting of the Henderson branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held last week when Sirs. Easper, district president, presented prizes for the best school essay on temperance written by Standard V. and Standard VI. boys and girls. Gordon Strid, Catherine White, Ronald McGregor and Muriel Leman received the prizes. Mrs. Kasper gave an address on character building. Recitations were given by Ronald McGregor and Colin Lowe and a solo by June Wright. Afternoon tea wasi served by. members.

A very enjoyable Christmas party was given for the patients of the Knox Home on Saturday afternoon by Mrs. J. Reid, Mrs. A. Brett, Miss Frost, Miss Mulvaney, Misses Fleming (2), Souter (2), and Murray (2). A concert programme, arranged by Miss Briar Gardiner, was much enjoyed. The performers, were : Mrs. Jj. Parry, Mrs. Bollard, Mi S3 B. Birch, Miss M. Moisley, Mr. Parry and Mr. Simmonds. After the concert tea was served and small presents distributed among the patients. Mr. Stanley, on behalf of the inmates, thanked the promoters of the party;

A most enjoyable Christmas party was given t'o the patients of the Knox Home by the Ever Ready Committee of the Victoria League. An excellent entertainment was given, comprising songs, community singing, sketches and a. reading by Miss Statham. Songs were given by Mrs. Hobday, Mrs. Humphrey Gordon, Mrs. Sykes and ' Miss Rika Pater son; recitations and sketches by Mrs. Carte-Lloyd and Miss Mavis McCulloeh. The accompanists were Mrs. Hewlett and Miss Gray. Books and magazines were distributed. Also Christmas gifts of tobacco, sweets, handkerchiefs and scent. A delicious afternoon tea was served. Among those present were:—Miss Mowbray, president'of the league, Mesdames Rickerby, Throuson, Wallace, Stanley Chambers, Preston Chambers, Allen, McKay, Worrall, Green, Fraser, Stubbs, Callon, Guilder, Maguire, Cleal, Kohn, Charlton, Smith, Mathias, Misses Teapc, Keesing (2) and Graham.
