THE NORTHLAND CLUB

DECISION TO WIND UP LACK OF INTEREST SHOWN [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Friday The adjourned annual meeting of the Northland Trotting Club was held last night. There was a very poor attendance, only eight members being present, but the president, Mr. H. W. Crawford, ruled that as the meeting was a continuation of the annual meeting held on September 26, the quorum of 15 members was not necessary. Mr. Crawford said that since the last meeting a sub-committee had waited upon tlio Whangarei Racing Club, which had agreed to cancel unconditionally the arrears of rent of Kensington Park up to August 1, 1931. However, the Trotting Club must pay maintenance of the park since August 1. Mr. T. W. Dennett moved that, owing to tho unsatisfactory conditions made to the club by the Whangarei Racing Club, which required £l5O for one day's racing on Kensington Park, the Northland Trotting Club cancel its permit and wind up its affairs. Mr. D. McCarroll said he would bo very reluctant to torminato tho club's activities after such a long period. Mr. E. J. Parkes said he had been to recent trotting meetings in other centres whero lack of public support had proved disastrous, and ho could not seo any possibility of holding a successful meeting in Whangarei. "The attendance to-night shows how much interest is taken by members," said Mr. Parkes, who added that the club would have to provide free transport and stabling in order to attract horses, and Whangarei was too far away for that course to be practicable. Tho secretary, Mr. A. F. Thomson, said the club could not hold a race meeting unless members guaranteed a further £2OO. 'J he funds in hand at present amounted to £lßl. Mr. Bennett's motion was carried unanimously. It was also decided that the executive committee pay all liabilities, including tho secretary's salary for tho past three years, and any balance available to bo donated to tho Whangarei District Hospital.
