OLD THAMES GIRLS
GIFTS OF NEW GARMENTS Over 250 now and beautifully-made garments, and cftsh donations wore received at the bi-annual Rift afternoon of the Old Thames Girls' Association, which was held in the Pitt Street Hall yesterday. In the absence of tho president, Mrs. A. Oldham, owing to ill-health, Mrs. W. Lambourne, "welcomed the members and guests and thanked nthem for the garments they had brought. These would be handed over to tho social workers of Auckland for distribution among the poor and needy, Mrs. Lambourne said, while any old Thames people who were in distress would be given preference. A Christmas message from Mrs. Oldham, who is at present in hospital, was delivered to tho members, by the secretary, Mrs. E. G. McMicken. A brief outline of her work in helping young girls in distress, and the various problems dealt with by the social workers in Auckland was given by Major Annie Gordon. There was a great shortage of clothing at the present time, and the gifts of the Old Thames Girls' Association were most acceptable. A brief address on the social work of the city and the difficulties encountered owing to lack of funds, was given by the Rev. E. E. Orr, of the Airedale Street Mission. An enjoyable musical programme was given by Miss Betty Brown, and the Rev. E. E. Orr, who sang and Mrs. Howson, who gave several recitations. Tea was served by Mrs. Dawson and her committee.
