NOTES
Petrol price wars are spreading through the United States. In New Jersey the retail price of spirit was recently, in some places, as lotv as 5d a gallou. A feature of the recent motor-cycle show in London was the 1 h.p. motorcycle selling for £l7. At the other end of the scale was the solo twin motorcycle at £l7O. The interior of a car can best bekept clean by tho occasional use of a vacuum cleaner. For fabric upholstery, however, it is advisable to loosen tho accumulations with a whisk broom before the cleaner is used. Always brush in the direction of the weave of the fabric and not across the nap. About every four months it is a good idea to treat leather upholstery with a neutral leather dressing. This helps to preserve it and to keep it pliable. Parking a car in London is becoming more of a problem than ever. Police regulations have been more strictly enforced recently, and, except for the few official parking places it is now impossible to leave a car anywhere for more than five minutes. Many sidestreets which have for long been used for the purpose by motorists have now become the happy hunting grounds of policemen—and the crop of fines is growing. The chief sufferers, however, are not the owners of cars, but the restaurants which they patronise. Many of them are losing custom owing to the inability of drivers to leave their cars, as in former days, outside the door.
