LARGE GENERAL ENTRIES TWO AUSTRALIAN JUMPERS FORFEITS FOR CLASSICS General entries for the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Carnival, to be held at Ellerslie on December 26 and 28 and January 1 and 2, and forfeits for the three classic events, closed yesterday. A very satisfactory response was made by owners. While the hack races show a decrease this is counterbalanced by larger nominations for the open events, and the total general entries stand at 655, which is exactly the same as last year. The innovation of steeplechases has been fully justified by the excellent entry list. The Gloucester Steeplechase has drawn '2O I horses and the Sussex Steoplechase 32. ini eluding two Australians. DATES CANCELLED DARGAVILLE RACING CLUB SMALL ACCEPTANCE LIST Owing to the small acceptances received yesterday for its annual meeting to have been held next Thursday and Saturday the committee of the Dargaville Racing Club has decided to cancel the dates. It intends to apply for dates later in the Beason. RICH REWARD FOR RIDER MELBOURNE CUP VICTORY D. Munro, rider of Peter Pan in the Melbourne Cup. received a cheque for £2OUO from the owner. Mr. R. K. Dangar, in addition to tho riding fee of £SOO for his three wins on the Pantheon horse at the V.R.C. meeting. This is tho reward for the winning jockey in tho Melbourne Cup since Ken Lracken was paid £'looo for winning on Poitrel in 1920. Munro has on several occasions received offers to ride in Englnnd. These have been renewed since his Cup win, but he intends remaining in Australia. EPSOM TRACK WORK S. M. AUGUST'S HORSES

As a good number of the local horses are to take part in the trotting events at to-day's combined sports carnival, there was not much work at Epsom yesterday. Early morning rain settled the dust ou the dirt track, which was in nice order.

Tho Great Northern Trotting Derby candidate Superfine was given strong unhoppled work by L. McMalion and acquitted herself very creditably. She was not asked for speed, but stepped along for six furlongs at a shade worso than a 2.30 gait. Superfine is a well-developed three-year-old and has a nice style of pacing. McMahon also worked Red Hope, unhoppled, over four circuits on the eand. He was not eet an exacting task, but paced in pleasing fashion. Red Hope has done well since racing at tho spring meeting and appears to have thrown off the. soreness which affected him on his last visit to Epsom. S. M. August worked Mute. Luminate and Lucky Love usefully, but Pink Lady was restricted to an easy task. Without being asked to go fast. Mute trotted soundly and no fault can bo found with his condition. Luminate, who is standing up to his work satisfactorily so far on the firm tracks, was given a steady two miles, with a strong run homo. Lucky Love paced resolutely over several laps, but. as ho is not due to race for a few weeks, he is not being hustled along. Pink Lady, who has put on a lot of condition, has not done much serious work since coming to Epsom, but she may be raced at Te Aroha next Saturday. Willie Derby, Manco and Homeward are booked to race 10-day and look in nice order. Manco and Homeward are also engaged at the Te Aroha meeting.

Prince Etawah was given strong, tinhoppled work on the sand. Although he lias not raced for some time and is not lone back from a spell. Prince Etawah ie shaping up and may come to hand again fairly quickly. Tho dirt and sand tracks will be available for fast work this morning, but all horses must be off the course by 11 o'clock on account of the sports carnival. The grass track will be open on Tuesday morning from 8.30 to 10.30.

WHANGAREI TROTTING TEAM

• RED HOPE AND SUPERFINE Tho Whangarei trotting trainer L. McMahon hits arrived at Epsom witli Red Hope and Superfine to finish otf their preparation for the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer fleeting. Superfine, a three-year-old filly by Nelson Bingen from Lottie Audubon, is engaged in tho Great Northern Trotting Derby. She is well developed, being bigger than her sister. Nellota, and in conformation moro resembles her halfbrother Pegaway. Superfine has done a fair amount of work at Whangarei, but lacks racing experience. She will have a race to-day, and. with the opportunity of working in company during tho next few weeks, should mako appreciable improvement. Red Hope, who has developed lazy habits through being worked by himself at Whangarei, should also benefit by tho company at Epsom.

PACING MARE FROM SOUTH NEWCOMER IN SMITH'S TEAM The Canterbury pacing maro Rokena has been acquired by an Auckland owner and is now located at F. J. Smith's stables. She is an aged mare by Author Dillon from Pegj-y Logan and this season ran unplaced at New Brighton, her first raco since the end of the 1032-33 season. Rokena. started eight times as a four-year-old. her only succeeu being gained at Gieymouth in June. 1031. In the following season she raced 27 time 9 for two wins, one each at Reefton and Forbury Park. In thee 1932-33 season sho contested 17 races, but failed to win. scoring one second and three thirds. Rokena is assessed this season on 2.52, 3.28 and 4.41, and has been nominated for tho 2.51 class race at Te Aroha. A CONSISTENT PERFORMER KILTOWYN'S GOOD RECORD * The five-year-old Kiltowyn has proved a good bargain for the :i0 guineas 110 cost Mr. A. D. Potter as a yearling at the dispersal sale of the Cambria Pork Stud 011 December 30. 1930, as ho has won £1865 in stakes and looks well capable of winning more. To date Kiltowyn has contested 18 races for six wins, four seconds and two thirds, and a feature of his good form is that he has raced only on two courses, Ellerslie and Avondale. As a yearling Kiltowyn was rather undersized, being a late foal, and Mr. Potter refrained from racing him early, not calling upon him to appeur in public until the autumn of his two-year-old career, at which ago he had only three outings. As a thrce-yeor-old he was also lightly raced, having only three outings, of which he won two. Last season he did well as a four-year-old. but some doubt about his future was occasioned when he bled after contesting tho Easter Hondicap in the autumn.
