CHINESE FINED £25

POSSESSION OF OPIUM Appearing on summons, a .Chinese laundryman, Stanley Home (Mr. Sullivan"), was charged before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday with being in the possession of prepared opium on November 20. The offence was admitted. A small tin of "seconds" was found on accused by Detective Brady. The police said that defendant, from his previous convictions, seemed to be a confirmed addict. On behalf of defendant, it was stated that he had been smoking opium to relieve the pain of eye trouble he was suffered from. Counsel asked that a penalty greater than the minimum fine of £25 should not be imposed. Defendant was fined £25.
