AIR SERVICES
DEVELOPMENT IN AUSTRALIA Comments on recent developments in commercial aviation were made yesterday by Mr. H. G. Armstrong, a representative of the British Pacific Trust, of London, who passed through Auckland by '"the Monterey yesterday on his way to Australia. His firm recently purchased Han worth aerodrome, near London, and Mr. Armstrong is arranging to acquire New England Airways, which runs a service betweon Sydney and Brisbane. The company plans to replace the existing aeroplanes with faster types, and to establish feeder line services on which small, fast aeroplanes will fly. An order has been placed for 10 Monospar machines for the feeder lines. Mr. Armstrong stressed the need for greater speeds in the air, and said commercial aeroplanes should be able to cruise at not less than 1(30 miles an hour. He stated that American commercial aeroplanes were far ahead of British machines in this respect.
