CRICKETERS RETIRE
WOODFULL AND PONBFORD Australia has had many remarkable cricketers, but few more remarkable than the two famous Victorians who were given a testimonial -match in Melbourne last week, says an Australian writer. In the annals of Victorian and Australian cricket the names of William Maldon Woodfull and , William Harold Ponsford—"the two Bills" to cricketers —will be inseparably linked.
It is fitting that this shoiid be so. They began their careers in big crick6t at about the same time. They have been 'associated in many extraordinary performances, and there is a remarkable similarity in the general records, although Ponsford's feats have often been the more sensational and spectacular. In addition, they have always been close friends, and it is appropriate that they should be linked in this recognition of their services w the game.
