GRACE DARLING'S BRAVERY FIRST PLANTED IN LONDON ' LONDON. Nov. 25 The first Grace Barling oak tree, of which similar specimens will be planted at British ports throughout the world in the next four years,, to commemorate the heroic deed of Grace Darling in 18JJ8, was planted at Battersea Park wiith impressive ceremonial. On the morning of September 7, 18.58, the Forfarshire, with 63 persons on board, struck the Fame Islands on hex passage from Hull to Dundee, and 43 were drowned. The wreck was observed from the Longstone lighthouse, Grace Darling's father being the keeper. Dsirling and his daughter determined to try to reach the survivors, and, bv a combination of daring, strength and skill, they reached the wreck in a boat and rescued four men and a woman. Grace Darling,, who was 23 at the time, died from consumption at the age of 27.
