LLAMAS AND CAMELS

AUCKLAND ZOO ADDITIONS PURCHASES IN AUSTRALIA Two' female llamas have been purchased from Taronga Park Zoo, Sydney, by the Auckland City Council for the Auckland Zoological Gardens. These animals are at present being held in Sydney, and whon permission to land them in New Zealand has been obtained from the Department of Internal Affairs, they will be shipped to Auckland. The Auckland Zoo already possesses two male llamas. It is the intention of the City Council to procure a suitable vehicle and, .when-the new" llamas are accustomed to harness they will be used as an additional attraction for children visiting the zoo. Rides in llama carriages are* "very jpopular with children at overseas zoos^ A pair of camels has also been placed under offer to the City Council' by the authorities of the Melbourne Zoo, and those will be purchased if the necessary permit to import them is granted by the Department of Internal Affairs.
