YACHT NGATAKI SIGHTED
SEEN OFF POOR KNIGHTS 100 MILES FROM AUCKLAND The yacht Ngataki, in which four young Aucklanders have been cruising in the Pacific for nearly three months, was sighted off the Poor Knights Islands, about midway between Bay of Tslands and Whangarei, about 100 miles from Auckland, by the auxiliary schooner Huia on Friday night, according to a special message to the Herald from. the master of the Huia> The Huia, which left Auckland for Melbourne at daybreak on Friday, passed the yacht on the inside of the islands at about 8 p.m. At a late hour last night the yacht had not been leported at Auckland and it is likely that the crew have put in : at some place along the coast. The crew of the Ngataki comprises Messrs. *£. W. Wray, of Lucerne Road, Remuera, D. Wellington, N. Watson and P. McMahon. With an overall length of 35ft., the yacht was built by Mr. Wray in the garden of his home and launched last year. Leaving Auckland on September 1, the Ngataki reached Tonga 20 days later after a stormy trip. The latest advice received in Auckland previously concerning the cruise was that it continued to be successful. The vessel was then, on October 1, at Vavau, Tonga. On its return to Auckland, the Ngataki will be prepared for the transtasman yacht race, which at present is scheduled to commence on December 8.
